He was too ethical and she was too shy to follow up on their mutual attraction. Young Zoe goes on to a disastrously abusive marriage that ends in a car accident that left her disfigured and her husband dead. The doctors are amazed she survived and was able to carry her daughter as long as she did. During her recovery and goes on to obtain her Doctorate in Religious Anthropology,
then interviews for a professorship at Blackthorn College where she is reunited with her dark teacher.
